Wooden shield

“A solid wooden shield.”

About this item

A wooden shield is the weakest shield available, given for free to new players on Tutorial Island. For melee combat it is recommended to quickly progress to something better, though the wooden shield's lack of negative bonuses makes it somewhat useful in early magic combat. Its combat stats are equal to the training shield but worse than the anti-dragon shield. The training shield also weighs approximately twice as much.

Its high alch value of 12 does not cover the 150 nature rune it would burn, so alching is a loss before the item itself is counted.

Measured with medians rather than averages, because one spike — an update, a streamer, a brief squeeze — drags an average around for weeks afterwards and makes everything since look ordinary. Worth noting here: this item typically moves 5.27% in a day, which is more than the 1.80% you would be capturing — so holding it overnight risks more than the flip makes.
